Hiking in the high Himalayan mountains is the dream for every aspiring mountaineer. It's impossible to put into words how momentous it feels seeing the world's highest mountain ranges in the flesh surrounded by the welcoming spirits of the locals.

Annapurna's reputation precedes it as a mountain hike of epic proportions however Mardi Himal remains a hidden gem of a trek that few tourists know of and even fewer have had the joy of discovering - this is what we live for at INTO THE OUTSIDE!

On INTO THE OUTSIDE's Annapurna Base Camp and Mardi Himal Trek you will experience some of the finest trekking in the world. We will travel lightweight, carrying our personal kit on our backs, so you experience the long distance trek the way it should be done.

We will walk through lush Rhododendron, Oak and Bamboo forests, visit small mountain communities and stay in local tea houses all with the back drop of the Annapurna range around us. The views of Mardi Himal, the famous 'Fish Tail' Machnapuchhre (6,997m), Annapurna South (7,219m) and Annapurna 1 (8,091m) are out of this world.

Once you arrive in Kathmandu  you will be picked up from the airport and taken to your accommodation in the old town of Thamel. Here you can check-in and relax, wander around the old town and do some haggling with the locals. From artefacts, carvings and outdoor gear galore, there's hours to be lost in these narrow streets full of hustle and bustle. A local meal will give the group the chance to bond and talk about the trip ahead before retiring to our hotel and getting a good night's rest.

After breakfast we'll travel to Pokhara by private bus out of the busy city and into the mountains, through small villages passing through deep canyons and along glacial rivers.

We will arrive in Pokhara, the home of Lake Phewa, and check-in to our apartment. You will have time to explore the charming town or maybe sit by the lake and enjoy a beer. After a lovely local meal we'll spend the night at a rooftop cinema.

In the morning our adventure truly BEGINS! We will travel in to the Annapurna Conservation Area. First to Phedi (1,130m) and start our hike to Dhampus (1,659m), where you will get your first glimpse of the holy mountain Machnapuchhre 'The Fish Tail'. This iconic summit overlooks the entire region - a true masterpiece of Mother Nature.

We will walk through paddy fields and rural hamlets, stopping for tea along the way, until we reach the dense treeline and continue our journey to our first Tea House in Kokar Forest Camp (2,437m). We will meet the owners and be welcomed by a fire and meal and finally our first night in the mountains. Truly special.

Day 4 of our trek will begin with an early breakfast in the tea house. We will then gear up and hit the trail. It begins with climbing through the rhododendron forest up toward Mardi Himal High Camp (3,600m). We will enjoy a winding walk through beautiful trees with a stop for lunch at the Low Camp (2,970m) before continuing our journey to High Camp. We will rise out of the forest and the views will open up along an epic ridge-line. Here you will get a close up view of Annapurna and the Fish Tail before we arrive at our destination, Mardi Himal High Camp (3,600m). The perfect place to rest our weary feet, relax by a fire, drink some tea and enjoy a huge Dal bat.

Day 5 sees an early start, rising with the sun. Heading up to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) we will be up close and personal with Machhapuchhre (6,997m). The Fish Tail is one of the most visually stunning mountains in the world. From this point we are actually higher than Annapurna's Base Camp - Acclimatisation complete! It's back down to High Camp for lunch and then the descent to Forest Camp for a night a little lower down the valley. It will be a good night's sleep after a hearty meal and you will be feeling very proud after completing the first stage of the trek that few visitors get to see!

Day 6 we rise at Forest Camp and enjoy breakfast surrounded by the local horses, chickens and small puppies. After saying our goodbyes we will hike down to Landruck (1,565m), stopping for lunch in the valley with views along the Modi Khola river to Annapurna South. Next stop, the atmospheric Jhinudanda village (1,780m). We will check-in to our tea house adorned with vibrant flowers and walk down to the natural Hot Spring for a well-deserved wash and relax. Such a magical place. Once we've had dinner it's a perfect spot to sit, kick back and read a few pages of your book, if you have the energy! Another early morning rise and breakfast. If you're really early you might be able to squeeze in a pre-breakfast hot spring dip!

Day 7 will see us gain more altitude as we weave our way through the forest along beautiful mountain paths. Passing local houses selling corn on the cob, snacks and rum! As we look to our right you will see where we have come from as the Forest Camp of Mardi Himal is now above us and the 'Fish Tail' gets closer and closer. Finally, we will reach the Bamboo Village (2,210m) to be greeted by 'Big Momma' the lady of the house.

Day 8 we climb to Deurali Camp (3,200m) for our final night before reaching Annapurna Base Camp. A shorter day than before but plenty of rest is needed before we realise our mission!

Day 9 is the day you've all been waiting for; the hike in to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). Everyone should be well acclimatised from our night at Mardi Himal High Camp. You will be blown away with the views. Annapurna (8,091m/26,545ft) towers above and you really get a sense of how big the 10th Highest mountain in the world is. We will spend an unforgettable night here.

On Day 10 will we start our descent back down the valley but not before we have an atmospheric breakfast in front of Annapurna. It's the final chance to get snapping so we will make sure there is plenty of time to get a load of photos before we go. We will return hike to Bamboo camp for a warm welcome back into the village. Here we can have a good meal and sleep a little better at the lower altitude.

Day 11 is a big day as we say our final goodbye to 'Big Momma' and head further down the valley to Landruck (1,565m). We will pass some of the villages that we crossed on our ascent as the locals wave us goodbye and wish us peace and luck. This is when you might start tearing up as this beautiful trek nears its end. But, not before a final night in the village.

Day 12 sees us hike out of the Annapurna National Park as we follow the Modi Khola river from Landruck to the buzz of Birethanti (1,025m). Catch the bus back to Pokhara. You'll have the rest of the day to relax, hit the shops, see the lake, go for a well-deserved beer or chill back at the apartment. We will have an evening meal in town and watch some live music!

Day 13 you'll have the morning to relax and then in the afternoon we travel to the Seti River for an afternoon of White Water Rafting. Thrills and spills galore. The perfect way to end the trip. Afterwards, we head back to town for some more downtime, evening meal and a relaxing night at the Garden Cinema.

On Day 14 we get the bus to Kathmandu. Check-in to our hotel and then visit the Pashupatinath Temple. Located just east of Kathmandu on the banks of the Bagmati River. After this we return to Thamel, chill and do a bit of shopping before our final meal.
