Dan Fylan-Smith

INTO THE OUTSIDE guide Dan Fylan-Smith lives in Cumbria with his partner Becki and their 10 year-old Labrador Pan.

He is a Summer Mountain Leader and spends most of his time organising walks and leading groups in and around the Lake District.

Dan has lived and worked in the Lake District as an Outdoor Instructor since 2010 and has an intimate knowledge of the Lakeland fells and beyond. He spent time in the US working as a Canoe and kayak coach and over the last few years led treks in Cambodia, North America and the Atlas Mountain of Northern Africa. He has successfully summited Jbel Toubkal and Mont Blanc, both 4,000+ metre peaks.

Kayaking is a huge passion for Dan. He has led expeditions throughout Europe, Mexico and Norway and is a UKCC Level 2 Coach and 5 Star White Water Kayak Leader. These trips have allowed Dan to produce a number of adventure films, some of which have premiered at Kendal, Keswick, and Calgary Mountain Festivals.

One of Dan's most recent productions, Kayak Europa 3.0 appeared at the Kendal Mountain Festival's Wild Water film night where he had the honour to share the stage with National Geographic's Explorer of the Year, Erik Boomer.

Dan is a strong supporter of HEADSMART, the brain tumour charity for children and the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Charity. Both charities were an amazing support when Dan lost his father to cancer in 2010. When Dan participates in an event or expedition he makes every effort to raise money for that extremely worthwhile charity.

In the winter of 2017 Dan and Becki explored snowboarding in the Alps, travelled the length and breadth of India and climbed and paddled in Nepal, completing many trails in the Annapurna National Park.

Finally if Dan's not organising INTO THE OUTSIDE Adventures or dreaming of waterfalls he'll probably be on the hill in the Lake District chilling out with Becki and Pan.

Becki has lived and worked in the Lake District as an outdoor instructor since 2012 and has an indepth knowledge of the mountains, ghylls and crags of Cumbria. Alongside running adventures for INTO THE OUTSIDE, Becki also does outreach work with Action for Blind People and trains and assesses Duke of Edingburgh expedition. In her free time she enjoys upcycling junk items and is training as a blacksmith in a local forge.

Rain, wind, snow or shine Becki enjoys nothing more than getting out and about exploring new corners of the Lake District, UK and abroad in a canoe, on horseback, on a snowboard, on foot or on the end of a rope! Becki is particularly fond of wild swimming - even in the chilly Lake District winters! She has swum the 5.6miles of Coniston Water to raise money for Ordinary 2 Extraordinary and has competed in 3 Chill Swim competitions.

The French Alps and Italian Dolomites have a special place in her heart after living there in 2010/11 but Norway, Montenegro and Croatia have definitely made an impression too!

In 2016 Becki led a group of young students through the deserts and mountians of Bolivia, also working at a frog sanctuary, cleaning and caring for endangered frogs. In 2017 she led a scuba diving and trekking expedtion to Bali and climbed the 3,600m peak of Mt Semeru.

Dan and Becki will be off to the alps again this February. Taking the adventure bus on another epic journey finding the best place to snowboard in Europe before taking on another season in the Lake District.

With a growing number of followers and new bookings 2018 looks set to be another awesome year for INTO THE OUTSIDE.

Thank you to everyone who has come out on an adventure and stayed at our BNB. We both look forward to meeting you all in 2018 and designing your perfect day out in the Lake District!
